EcoFlow River 2 – 256Wh Portable Power Station Overview

The EcoFlow River 2 is a compact and lightweight portable power station designed for everyday backup needs, outdoor adventures, and on-the-go charging. It offers a reliable balance of portability, fast recharging, and a versatile range of output options—all built around a durable lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery and is available at Mobihub Electronics Kenya.

Battery and Capacity

Battery Chemistry: Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄)
Capacity: 256 watt-hours (Wh)
Cycle Life: Up to 3,000 full cycles to 80% capacity

The 256Wh capacity is ideal for small to medium electronic devices, making it suitable for camping, short road trips, or home backup during brief outages. The LiFePO₄ battery ensures longer life, superior thermal stability, and safer performance compared to traditional lithium-ion cells.

Charging Options and Input Features

The EcoFlow River 2 is known for its ultra-fast recharging speeds and flexible input capabilities:

AC Wall Charging:
Charges from 0% to 100% in about 60 minutes through a standard wall outlet, thanks to its integrated fast-charging inverter system.
Solar Charging:
Supports solar panel input via the XT60 port, allowing off-grid recharging. Compatible with up to 110W solar input (11-30V, 8A max), depending on panel specs and sunlight conditions.
Car Charging:
Can be recharged via a 12V car port, making it easy to top up while driving.
USB-C Input:
Some versions support USB-C input/output (up to 60W), further increasing charging flexibility.

Output Ports and Power Delivery

The EcoFlow River 2 provides multiple types of output ports to power a variety of devices:

2 x AC Outlets (Pure Sine Wave):
Rated at 300W continuous output (600W surge with X-Boost technology). These are standard 230V (or 120V, depending on region) AC outlets for powering laptops, TVs, small appliances, etc.
1 x USB-C Port (60W):
Fast-charges phones, tablets, and USB-C laptops.
2 x USB-A Ports (12W each):
For general devices like smartphones, cameras, and LED lights.
1 x Car Socket (12V/10A):
Useful for powering 12V accessories like coolers, air pumps, or CPAP machines.
1 x DC5521 Port (13.6V/3A):
For small DC-powered electronics.

The total output is well-optimized for small appliances and mobile devices but not intended for high-drain tools or heavy-duty equipment.

Display and Controls

The front panel features a clear LCD display, which shows real-time information including:

Remaining battery percentage
Input and output wattage
Estimated remaining runtime
Error messages or alerts

Simple buttons allow you to control AC/DC output and toggle features such as the quiet fan mode.

Size, Weight, and Portability

Weight: Approximately 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs)
Dimensions: Roughly 24.5 x 21.5 x 14.5 cm

Compact and easy to carry with an integrated handle, the River 2 fits easily into car trunks, tents, and small storage spaces. Its lightweight profile makes it ideal for mobile lifestyles and those needing portable energy solutions without bulk.

Safety and Battery Management

The EcoFlow River 2 features an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) that offers multiple layers of protection:

Overvoltage protection
Overload protection
Over-temperature control
Short-circuit protection
Low-temperature charging cut-off
Battery cell monitoring and balancing

The LiFePO₄ chemistry further enhances safety, as it is far less prone to thermal runaway and degradation than traditional lithium-ion alternatives.

App Connectivity

EcoFlow’s mobile app (via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi) allows for:

Remote monitoring of charge/discharge
Firmware updates
Device control (e.g., turning ports on/off)
Setting custom charging parameters

This adds convenience, especially when the unit is used as part of a home backup or solar setup.

Use Cases

The 256Wh EcoFlow River 2 is perfect for:

Camping and Hiking Trips: Charge phones, lights, cameras, GPS devices.
Remote Work: Power laptops, routers, or mobile modems.
Emergency Home Backup: Keep essential devices running during brief power outages.
Car Travel: Power accessories or medical devices like CPAP machines.
Outdoor Events: Provide clean energy for small sound systems or lighting.
